As a child, I found myself fascinated with the magic of cinema. As my family can attest, there were some occasions where I watched the behind-the-scenes features before watching the film! Over and over, I returned to similar haunts - the extended editions of Lord of the Rings, the BTS featurette our copy of the original Star Wars trilogy had, and many others. This changed from a theoretical interest to a strong practical passion in 2010, when my family visited Disneyland for the first time. I was fascinated by the live shows presented - most importantly the Jedi Training Academy, a show where two 'Jedi' trained a group of children from the audience before they fought Sith lords. From there, my nascent obsession with Star Wars evolved into a unending desire to create - to design characters, costumes and uniforms, to work with my hands and all the tools available to produce something fantastic that still drives me to this day.
My participation not only in the various Star Wars Costuming clubs, but the wider cosplay community, has given me myriad opportunities that I never dreamed of being possible. I have been incredibly lucky over the years to not only have met and connected with wonderful people within the film industry who have proven to be invaluable inspirations and friends, but also to have attended events such as the Rogue One and Solo Sydney advanced
screenings, and to have worked alongside Disney Style in the creation of a 'Sabine Wren' inspired suit to promote Star Wars: The Last Jedi. These opportunities, alongside my personal and academic projects, have left me with a strong portfolio of works and a realisation that my passion for design and film
have left me with a strong desire to work within the film industry.
My full portfolio is available for viewing on Google Drive and download, as is my resume.
This project was completed for PAX Aus 2022, though originally planned for 2021. It represents my first explorations into both electronics and true leatherworking. Though there are several upgrades planned for the costume in the future, I am happy with it’s current state. The costume was almost completely assembed from scratch, with the only exceptions being the boots, gloves, wig, and hilt of the lightsaber.
The 'Evren Jaira' costume is comprised of a mixture of parts made originally for my 2019 HSC Major Project and those rebuilt over 2021 and 2022 due to a mixture of new knowledge and needed repairs from usage. The helmet is 3D printed, as are the front chest plates and 'shknees', while the backplate and shoulder bells are 'Sintra' (expanded PVC foam) and the gauntlets are metal. This costume has so far been worn to: Melbourne Supanova 2021, Sydney Supanova 2021, Oz-Comic Con Sydney 2021, Star Wars Celebration Anaheim 2022, Sydney Supanova 2022, and my personal visit to Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser in November 2022.
Prosthetic from Amber Brite Cosplay. Uses ABH Norvina palette, Huda Beauty Amethyst Obsessions palette, KVD Super Brow Pomade in 'Lemmy Green', KVD Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in 'Ayesha'. Primary difference between 2019 and 2022 is the replacement with a new prosthetic due to wear and tear, and the removal of the wig.
For my Design Fundamentals Major Project, I chose to construct a functioning website from scratch. This would serve as a web portfolio, with at minimum a section to highlight some of my best work and a contact form, and now also has a small online store attached. I designed this logo as part of the site, with a geometric style inspired by the wing of a TIE-fighter and my initials.
